B2MeM09: Day Five

Day Five

Day 5 Icon Consider something that you regret: something that you did and wish you could undo, something you didn't do and wish that you had. Think or write briefly about what you would do if you had a second chance and how you think your life might be different without that regret.

If your character would have a chance to start anew and with a clean slate, what would he or she do with such a chance? Write a story, poem or create an artwork where this is offered to them or how they execute such a chance.

There are no deadlines for completing prompts. If it inspires you, write for it! That is the whole idea behind our B2MeM this year. :)

(We do ask, however, that folks writing the marathon thirty-one prompts try to finish by mid-April so that we're not making up banners into the Eighth Age!)

We are a Silmarillion group, but we encourage all Tolkien-based creative work during B2MeM. Feel free to post your work or links to your work in the comments on LJ posts or on our Yahoo! mailing list.

I haven't and don't generally read a lot of Hobbitfic, but this is one of my favorites of the B2MeM stories that I've read so far. It's hard to even know where to begin ... but I suppose I could start with my admiration for telling a story while also making a thought-provoking comment on the texts. *bows at your feet* The characterization (I love Elanor here!), the dialogue, the way you tie the "big picture" of Gollum in with the more intimate understanding of Elanor's Aunt Petunia, the tiny details that are *just right*, the subtle nostalgia in the tone ... everything! :) Thank you for sharing this, Marta! What a beautiful story. :)

I don't often write hobbit stories, at least not full-length ones, but sometimes a story involving them will demand to be told. Aside from the obvious text criticism angle, it was very fun being ble to write a rather normal teenage/young woman girl - it was writing myself and my friends in many ways, so it came very naturally.

I'm so glad you gave this a chance, and that you like all the things you did about it. It's very gratifying to hear those kind of things.
