On behalf of Marta, I am passing on this news

The Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards (MEFAs for short) are gearing up for the 2006 season. Many of us have been working very hard over the last few weeks to make sure that everything is in order. We had originally hoped to begin accepting nominations on May 1, but have decided to delay that a few days so we can make sure all of the guidelines and forms are as correct as they can be. We want to avoid confusion as much as possible. We expect to be able to start within the next day or two.

You will still be able to make nominations throughout the month of May. Hopefully having a few less days to do so will not inconvenience anyone too much, and we do not want to confuse people by changing more dates than we have to. Please make sure that you make any nominations you wish to by 11:59:59 PM GMT on May 31.

What can you do in the meantime? You can certainly start thinking about the pieces you would like to nominate. The MEFAs accept virtually any type of Tolkien fanfic, both fiction and nonfiction, and every member can nominate up to twenty pieces. We allow authors to nominate their own work, and such nominations count toward the twenty-piece limit. For more information on eligibility please see
http://www.mefawards.net/faq/viewforum.php?f=1

If you are not already a member and would like to nominate stories, you should join the Yahoo group [MEFAwards]. This lets us reach all of our members quickly and easily. If you do not have a Yahoo account just send an email to [email protected], and I will send you an invitation that allows you to join by email. If you participated last year but have forgotten your password, you can email [email protected]. I will go ahead and resend your password so you will be ready to begin nominating when we begin that in a few days.

Anyone interested can also review the FAQs and rules for 2006. You can find the FAQs at http://www.mefawards.net/faq/ , and the rules at http://www.mefawards.net/faq/viewforum.php?f=10 .

Thank you for your patience! Watch this forum for another announcements when we open up nominations.

Cheers,
Marta (humble MEFA admin)

This morning, as I read the SWG May newsletter, a few ideas scrambled for my attention and one of them managed to come out in words, taking the form of this ficlet. The idea is a major canon twist, as the challenge requires, but it only serves to raise questions as "What if?" and "What next?" (and "WTF?!", if you're not familiar with the way I write Fëanáro.) Joke aside, I do not have the answer to those questions and you are more than welcome to suggest what mgiht have happened if the little scene I have described had actually taken place.

Without further ranting, here is the story:

Title: Crossroads
Author: Aramel
Warnings: None
Rating: G
Type: Angst/Drama
Characters: Caranthir, Haleth
Summary: For the AU challenge: what might have happened had Haleth stayed in Thargelion. Haleth/Caranthir.

This is still rather rough, but I felt that it would have spoiled the mood to correct it. So I present, without further ado:
